What is local SEO?

Local SEO is how customers find you
when it matters most.

Local SEO (local search engine optimisation) is the process of improving your visibility in Google's location-based results — the map pack, Google Maps, and the organic results that appear when someone searches for a product or service near them. It's distinct from general SEO because it targets geographic intent: 'plumber in Manchester', 'solicitor near me', 'dentist open Saturday Birmingham'.

General SEO competes nationally or globally. Local SEO competes in your town, city, or region — which means the competition is narrower, the ranking path is faster, and the leads you generate are from people who can actually visit, call, or book right now. For most UK small and medium businesses, local SEO delivers a higher return than almost any other marketing channel.

Our local SEO services

Every pillar of local search,
executed and reported monthly.

We don't pick one or two tactics and call it local SEO. Sustainable local rankings require all the signals working together. Here's exactly what we do.

📍

Google Business Profile optimisation

Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single most important ranking signal for local search. We fully optimise every field — categories, services, attributes, Q&A, photos, posts and hours — and keep it active with regular updates. A neglected GBP is the most common reason businesses don't appear in the local pack even when everything else is right.

🔎

Local keyword research

We map exactly what your potential customers are searching for in your area — including location modifiers, 'near me' variants, service + town combinations, and voice-search phrasing. We then match each keyword cluster to the right page (or flag pages that need to be created), ensuring you're targeting terms with genuine local commercial intent.

🏢

Citation building and NAP consistency

Citations are mentions of your business Name, Address and Phone number across directories, aggregators and data sources. Inconsistent NAP data (even a postcode format difference) confuses Google and suppresses local rankings. We audit your existing citations, correct errors and build new listings on the directories that carry authority for your industry and location.

🔗

Local link building

Links from locally relevant websites — local news outlets, chambers of commerce, local business directories, community organisations and regional publications — send a geographic authority signal that national links can't replicate. We identify and pursue local link opportunities that are realistic for your domain and your location.

🏷

Schema markup and structured data

Local Business schema tells Google exactly what your business is, where it is, what hours you operate and how to contact you — in a machine-readable format. We implement and maintain the full schema stack: LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage and Review schema where applicable, helping your listings stand out with rich results.

Review generation and reputation management

Google counts both the number and recency of reviews as a local ranking factor — and potential customers read them before calling. We build a review acquisition process that generates a steady, natural flow of genuine five-star reviews, and we help you respond to existing reviews (including negative ones) in a way that signals professionalism to both Google and prospects.

📄

Local landing pages

If you serve multiple locations, a single homepage can't rank for all of them. We build geo-targeted landing pages — each unique, substantive and genuinely useful — that allow you to appear in local search results across every area you cover. We avoid cookie-cutter content; Google can detect thin location pages and they do more harm than good.

📊

Analytics and monthly reporting

You receive a clear monthly report covering: local pack positions for your target keywords, Google Business Profile impressions and actions (calls, directions, website clicks), organic traffic from local queries, review score trends and citation health. No vanity metrics — only the numbers that connect directly to enquiries and revenue.

Our methodology

A clear process, not a black box.
Here's exactly how we work.

Most local SEO agencies list services. We show you the decision-making process behind them — so you always know what's happening and why.

01

Free local SEO audit

Before we propose anything, we audit your current local search presence: GBP completeness, citation consistency, existing local rankings, review profile, on-page signals and technical health. You get the audit whether or not you become a client — it's genuinely useful and there's no obligation.

02

Competitor gap analysis

We analyse the businesses ranking in your local pack and identify exactly what they're doing that you're not — whether that's more citations, better GBP categories, stronger review velocity or local links you've missed. This shapes the priority order of everything that follows.

03

GBP sprint

We fully optimise your Google Business Profile within the first two weeks. This is the highest-impact, fastest-return activity in local SEO — often producing visible ranking movement within 30 days. We don't drip this over months.

04

Citation and NAP sprint

We correct all existing citation errors and build priority new listings in the first 30–60 days. We use structured data from authoritative UK sources (Yell, Thomson Local, Bing Places, Apple Maps, industry-specific directories) to establish a consistent local footprint.

05

Content and on-page optimisation

We optimise existing service and location pages for local keyword intent, ensure heading structure supports local search signals, and — where needed — create new geo-targeted landing pages. Every page we touch follows the same principle: be genuinely useful to the user first, search engine signals second.

06

Local link outreach

We identify and pursue local link opportunities relevant to your industry and location — local press mentions, sponsorships, business associations, supplier pages and community organisations. We use honest, relationship-based outreach; no link farms, no private blog networks.

07

Review and reputation programme

We implement a review acquisition process suited to your business model — whether that's a post-service email sequence, a follow-up SMS, a QR code at point of sale, or a combination. We also draft response templates for positive and negative reviews so your online reputation is actively managed.

08

Monthly reporting and iteration

Every month you receive a plain-English report and a call to walk through it. We review what moved, what didn't, and adjust the activity plan for the following month. Local SEO is iterative — the audit never really stops, it just becomes a refinement process.

Why QuickFireSEO

What makes us different from
every other local SEO agency.

🇬🇧

UK-wide, not London-only

Most local SEO agencies are London-centric. We work with businesses across England, Scotland and Wales — Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle. We understand that local competition in a market town is different from a city centre, and we build strategies accordingly.

💷

Transparent, scope-based pricing

We publish clear pricing tiers based on scope — not vague 'packages' that hide the detail until you're on a call. You know exactly what's included before you sign anything. No lock-in, no surprise add-ons, no minimum 12-month contract.

🏪

SME and sole trader focus

We've built our service for independent businesses, multi-location SMEs, and sole traders — not global enterprises. Our processes, timelines and reporting are designed for businesses where the owner reads the monthly report and wants straight answers, not agency jargon.

🤖

AI search and GEO-ready

Google's AI Overviews are changing how local results appear. We optimise for both traditional local pack rankings and for the entity signals that AI search uses to surface local businesses — structured data, E-E-A-T signals, Q&A content and authoritative local mentions.

📣

Integrated paid + organic option

Through our sibling brand AdSpark, we can layer Google Local Services Ads and PPC on top of your local SEO — so while organic rankings build over months, paid local ads cover the gap immediately. One team, coordinated strategy, no conflicting advice.

📋

Honest timelines

We tell you upfront: most businesses see meaningful local pack movement within 60–90 days. Significant organic growth typically takes 4–6 months. We won't promise 'page one in 30 days' — but we will show you, month by month, what's moving and why.

FAQs

Questions about
local SEO.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Most businesses see meaningful local pack movement within 60–90 days, particularly after Google Business Profile optimisation and citation work. Sustained organic ranking growth — appearing consistently in the top 3 of the local pack for competitive terms — typically takes 4–6 months. Local SEO is faster than national SEO because the competition is narrower, but it's still a medium-term investment, not an overnight fix. We show you month-by-month progress so you can see what's moving and why.

What is the difference between Google Business Profile and Google My Business?

They are the same product. Google rebranded 'Google My Business' to 'Google Business Profile' in 2021. Your GBP is the listing that appears in Google Maps and the local pack when someone searches for your business or a category you appear in. It's free to claim and manage, but optimising it fully — correct categories, complete service listings, regular posts, photo management, Q&A management — is a significant activity that most businesses neglect.

Do I need a physical address to appear in the Google local pack?

You need a verified location for Google to include you in local pack results. If you're a service-area business (e.g. a plumber who travels to customers rather than having a shop), you can still have a GBP — you just set a service area rather than displaying your address publicly. Google uses your verified location to determine which local searches you're eligible to appear in.

What are local citations and do they still matter?

A local citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone number (NAP). Citations matter because Google uses consistency of NAP data across the web as a trust signal — if your phone number is different on Yell versus your website versus Thomson Local, it creates doubt about which information is correct. Citation building matters most in the early stages and for businesses in moderately competitive markets. In highly competitive markets, local links and review velocity tend to be the stronger differentiators.

How is local SEO different from regular SEO?

Regular (national or global) SEO focuses on ranking in standard organic results for terms without location intent — typically competing against businesses from across the UK or worldwide. Local SEO focuses specifically on location-based results: the map pack, Google Maps, and the organic results that appear for queries with geographic intent ('near me', '[service] in [city]', '[city] [service]'). Local SEO uses different signals — GBP, citations, local reviews, geographic relevance — that don't feature in national SEO campaigns.

How do reviews affect local SEO rankings?

Google uses both the quantity and recency of reviews as a local ranking signal. A business with 200 reviews and a 4.8 average will consistently outrank a business with 15 reviews and a 4.9 average, all else being equal. Review recency also matters — a business that was getting reviews consistently six months ago but has stopped will typically see ranking decline. The review keywords customers use in their reviews (mentioning your service or location) also contribute to relevance signals. We set up a process to generate a steady, natural flow of genuine reviews — no fake reviews, which violate Google's guidelines and risk your profile being suspended.

Can you do local SEO for multiple locations?

Yes — multi-location SEO is one of our specialisms. Each location needs its own Google Business Profile, its own set of citations, and ideally its own location landing page on your website. We manage the full GBP portfolio across all locations, ensure NAP consistency is maintained everywhere, and create unique, substantive landing pages for each location that actually have a chance of ranking (not duplicate pages with just the city name changed).

Is local SEO worth it for a small business?

For most UK small businesses and sole traders, local SEO delivers a higher return than almost any other marketing channel — particularly compared to directory listings, printed advertising or untargeted social media. The reason is intent: someone searching 'electrician in Leeds' is actively looking to hire an electrician right now. The challenge is that it takes 2–4 months to build momentum. If you need leads this week, we'd recommend layering Google Local Services Ads on top while the organic work builds. If you're thinking 6+ months ahead, local SEO is almost always the right investment.

What is the Google local pack and how do I get into it?

The Google local pack (also called the map pack) is the block of 3 business listings — with a map — that appears at the top of Google search results for local queries. It's typically the most visible part of the search results page and drives a significant share of local clicks. To appear in it, Google considers three main factors: relevance (how well your GBP matches the search), proximity (how close you are to the searcher) and prominence (how well-known and trusted your business is, based on reviews, links, citations and web presence). We work on all three.

Do you offer a free local SEO audit?

Yes — always. Before we recommend any package or pricing, we audit your current local search presence: GBP completeness, citation consistency, existing local pack rankings, review profile, on-page signals and technical health. The audit takes 2–3 working days and you receive a written summary with the key findings. It's useful whether or not you work with us, and there's no obligation to proceed.
